Calcium reactor media

There is no set time, it will depend on the effluent rate, the ph in the reactor, the actual media and the size of the reactor. I get about 6 months out of mine, but it is currently offline.

If my alkalinity is going up, could it be that I have too much media in there. I have a geo 618 for a 90 gallon, mostly sps. I set my reactor ph at 7. Bubble rate around every 4sec and effluent rate is flowing. Also using genx media.

I used to use GenX media, but can't find it any more. I used ReBorn and Tropic Eden and liked both. You may not have enough demand for the reactor, that is my problem currently so I went back to dripping kalk.

If alk is rising you may need to slow down the effluent which in effect is turning down the reactor.

I didn't think reactor media broke down until a pH of 6.5 or so.

It will begin to break down at a ph of 7.6 but it will take a very long time to get anything out of it at that ph. Because of my low alk demand I ran mine at 7.4 for a while and slowly lowered it as demand increased.

Ok, probably going with top off with kalk. What about increasing the range of the controller so it will take longer to turn the solenoid on? Thanks.
