Calcium Reactor Questions

As my interest in SPS has grown significantly, I am anticipating a challenge with my Calcium levels, and I am considering adding a reactor to my tank. I have managed to keep my levels "relatively" stable through water changes only, but I don't think that will suffice anymore.

I am looking for a reactor with a fairly small footprint, hopefully small enough to sit next to a 20gal long sump under a 75 gallon stand.

I also want to know the challenges in maintaining one of these, or are they fairly easy to use?

Will they maintain all Calc, Alk, and Mag levels, or will there be supplemental dosing required?

Any other information you could offer would be great. Also, if you happen to have one that you aren't using, let me know.

I have a GEO on my 75 now. You have to "dial it in" initially. but after that I have never touched it except to refill it. I would say make sure you have a ph controller for the reactor as that is what make it "set it and forget it" It only adds calcium not Mag unless you add a solid mag supplement like Zeo has that you can add to your reactor along with the calcium media. Unless you have a second chamber you will run your ph on the low side. I am actually taking my reactor off line and dosing BRS 2part on my temp system in the basement. I am considering using the balling method with dosing pumps on my new setup. Another alternative is to use a kalk reactor. if your calcium demand is not too high.

Hey,

I recently stopped using my Geo Calcium reactor on my 180 as I have almost no SPS in there. I only have LPS and softies and kalk is enough.

I was getting ready to clean it up and sell it.

I will have to check the model, but I think it is a Geo 624 with an aquarium plants regulator and 5 pound CO2 bottle.
