Calcium Reactor Up and Running

After our calcium reactor build party last week I had some finishing touches to do before it was completely testable. Today was the day to test all the seals, connectors, CO2 system and the Maxi-Jet 1200 on the reactor. The only items to test are the media and the Eheim pump.

I'd like to thank Checkinhawk and all the other RC members that were involved in this project - we have success - thank you!

Here are some photos of the test:

Here's my dog George waiting patiently for water to go everywhere - he was very disappointed.

The water is at the top and all the seals are holding.

This is the bubble counter - CO2 going into the system.

The bottom diffuser - as the water enters the system the disffuser spreads the water out.

Water exiting the reactor - Later this will be calcium

yeah thats what im talking about.im on money restriction from corals till i get my regulator and ph monitor.i think the ehiems will be in this week.i cant wait to run these suckers.

It was sweet to see it work I must say. I forgot to hook in my pH monitor - guess I'll do that later when the ehiems come in.

All I can say is sweet! Lets see a reactor for under 100$ for everything - nice! This reactor will work with reefs for up to 400 or so gallons I believe - I see a upgrade in my future :D!

i can tap the top for the monitor when you are ready.i did mine already.the fitting does have to be drilled out for the probe to pass through.

Cool!!!
The pumps should be in this week. I have to work Saturday, so I may make a mad dash over there during the week.

That would be the best place to put the probe. I could build a small box and put the probe in it- at the exit point. Not sure which would be the best. I figured I'd get this one working and then work on the other one for the 65g - with both I guess I can now go up to a 800g tank :D.

i think shes just dreaming.i dont think id even want that big, just think about all those 50 gallon water changes.

I'm setting up my plumbed in water change system for 50 gallon water changes. I think the hard part of an 800 is all the cash it would take for consumables...salt, calcium, phos, carbon, water, electricity, bulbs, food, etc...

Oh yea that is just a dream- largest I'm going is about 225 (6'L x 20"H x 36"D). In the wall, in the living room - sweet!
