calcium testing

my test kit has a vial for testing calcium, but only has the solution changing from one color to another as a result of the test.

how do i find out what the calcium # is. I see a lot of people saying that their calcium is at, for example 480. (just an example)?

You need a better test kit. Most of the good ones are titration type - where you add drops one at a time. Count the drops and and when the color changes - do the math on the box and calculate your calcium level.

My test kit ($139.00) did the same thing.

I would think for that much I would get numbers.

The above was a waste of money but some say FOWLR is ok to use this kind of tester. I cry FOWL!

Yep, you'll need a higher fidelity kit. I still hang out to Salifert products, but there are others out there.

LaMotte - excellent quality test kits. Calcium is easy to read, a titration kit that bach2pilot mentions. I've used them for years for accuracy and durability of materials. reagents can be ordered separately so you don't have to re-buy box, vials, etc.
