Can a coral grow in a tank that is not cycled?

I put a rock from my tank that had the large "green center with brown ring around" polyps and several of the yellow polyps on it. I was hoping the polyps would die and the bacteria would help the cycle. After about two weeks there are about 4 yellow polyps and two dozen green/brown ones.

The tank had been cycling for a week or two when I put the rock in. I do not think the tank had had time to cycle. I have not done the required testing. I just was really surprised to see the corals alive. :spin1:

Well, the answer maybe yes. Anyway the tank is cycled. It is being dominated by two clowns at the present time. :spin2:

I hope they do not become too dominate. :spin3:
