Can anyone plumb a tank?

Guys I had a leak on my 150 gal and it is being repaired. While the tank is at the shop, I wanted to clean up my sump and make it cleaner so I wanted to have my plumbing re-done. What I wanted to know is, I have seen some nice plumbing work done on tanks. I am not looking for anything fancy but there was a guy here in Dallas that is a plumber and charges $70 hr and he furnishes everything. I don't have any experience plumbing. I was looking to free up the extra pumps in my sump from GFO and GAC reactors and my chiller and the guy stated he could tie everything into my return pump. Anyways just wanted to know is there a science to plumbing. Would you do it yourself or would you get someone experienced Thanks for your help!

If you joined your local aquarium club you'd probably find a bunch of folks with experience who would be glad to help for free.

you can tie most into a single provided the pump is powerful enough and you have unions and ball valves to help direct the flow. i would not tie a chiller into the main return as GPH through a chiller must be very specific. i would do it myself however i have plumbed many tanks and i am comfortable with it.
