Can GSP's....

grow if I cut them? Like if I take a pair of scisors and cut some polyps that a getting to close to my acros, will the GSP's that I cut of the main GSP wrow back?

I have frag'd my GSP many times. When cutting make sure you dont cut the polyps themself. Also make sure they get plenty or light once cut.

Cut bits off, rip the colony from its rock and put it somewhere else, pull off pieces of the mat and put them through a paper shredder, they'll recover no matter what abuse you put them through. Not that I recommend abusing them, but they really are that tough. GSP will grow back from tissue left on a rock, or pieces (even very small ones) torn off and superglued to a surface. They're just about the hardiest coral out there; IME fragged colonies barely seem to notice the loss of one or more pieces, they just keep on growing, and have a way of taking over a tank while you're not looking .

totally agree...I had some live on rock that I cooked for almost 2 months...along with some brown digi...

I just got a fresh frag from a local reefer, freshly cut, and they are doing great. No problems here.

Just rip them off. They are practically indestructible! I just took a whole bunch off my colony tonight. How's this for a "frag"? I got about 4x this in total. You know it's bad when the GSP grows 3-4 layers over itself!

When I upgraded my tank, I ripped all the mats from my backwall and some of them just floated around the tank. Last month I was rearranging the rockwork and found a piece of mat that was buried under the sand for pretty much a year.. I took it out and glued it to a Tonga branch. It's now encrusting really nice.. I can't believe how hardy GSPs are, they are literally indestructible.

Thanks! I was going to post it when I read this but in the end, what others have said is pretty much true (though using C4 to frag your corals might cause some other problems, but I'm fairly certain that the GSP would grow back if put back into the salt water if it didnt completely disintegrate).

I've had some rocks where you couldn't even see GSP left on it after it was fragged grow back into raging colonies.

So yes, if you cut it, it will grow back.
