Can I add another clown to tank?

I had two Ocellaris Clownfish Captive bred that became mated pair in my tank for about a year. Then yesterday when I came home from work I found the male dead on the floor outside of tank (poor guy, perhaps he couldn't handle domestic life :lmao

Anyway, is it safe/possible to add another clown to tank? The female is somewhat aggressive, nothing vicious.

Should be fine. Just a little fighting. They do change sexes at times. By the way, you need a screen to prevent jumping.

yeah, ironically I ordered a screen several weeks ago and it wont arrive for another 2-3 weeks! Never had problem with them jumping before though...

Just make sure the clown you add is most definitely smaller than the existing female and you will be fine.

I honestly think she made your male commit suicide.

I've had this happen twice, once due to suicide and once due to succumbing to an injury. Each time the female has acted depressed after losing the mate only to pop back to normal once a new one is introduced.

Same thing happened to my clowns a little less than a year ago. She turned on him and within a week he was stressed to death.

I waited about 6 months and added a new adolescent to the tank about two months ago and he follows her about and she doesn't seem to mind. He has to be getting close to sexual maturity so we'll see if that changes things, but for now, the tank mates are getting along swimmingly
