Ive read threads on here that talk about different equip. that more or less belong to the club. Suction cups and what not. Does the club also have a chiller that I can borrow? I came home yesterday and my tank was sitting up over 84 degrees. It was only about 78 degrees in the house. Today I was able to keep the tank temp. at 78 with two ziplock baggies of ice in the sump and a fan. This is an inconvenience but not a problem as long as I am here. I will be going on vacation pretty soon and will be gone for about a week. Do you see what Im gettin at? If anyone has a chiller that I can borrow or rent for about a week or so it would definantly be appreciated.

For about 8 years my 180G tank temp ranged from and 82-85 and never lost a coral. I found other 1000 ways to kill them but, heat was not one of them :)

Its wild how opinions vary on this. One guy told me that this was a fish fry waiting to happen and youre telling me that you didnt have a problem. I did notice that my zoas closed up when the tank hit about 85. Just made me real nervous. I do appreciate the reassurance though. :)

What is even more interesting my tank had no fans trying to cool it down and my Aquaspace lights have no fans either. That is cool.

Nope... no chillers in the club to borrow. At lest not that "belong" to the club, nor would the club be likely to get one. That's something that would be a long term piece of equipment that you would probably just want to purchase. :)

However, if you're really worried about it, turn your AC down a bit (maybe to 72?) and put a large fan blowing onto your sump. This will cause evaporative cooling and will cause a need for more topoff, but should help you cool your tank down until you can find a more permanent solution.

Personally, I think if you're peaking at 84 degrees, then perhaps a few well-placed fans may be a better solution than a chiller... or at least a less expensive solution. :)

The thing on chillers is unless you have a way to evacuate heat from the room, the chiller just adds that heat back into the room causing the problem to self perpetuate. Turn on some exhaust fans if there is one nearby..it will likely help you better than a chiller if the room has poor air flow. Brandon;s idea is also a good one using evaporation to help cool the tank.

Whole reason I put the tank in my basement, it stays cooler naturally down there, but this time of the year and fall are the two times I have problems, due to the windows being open and the AC not on. Mine gets up to 82-83 even with a fan. I still don't too bent out of shape. 86-87 I would get worried.
