It is possible, but why take the risk? I have successfully fragged trachys/wellsos in similar form but typically it was because one half was receding or already dead. If you do frag it I would make sure you use a coral band saw, then place it into a coral dip bath for about 5 mins with water from the tank its from (I like TLF Revive or Brightwells MediCoral since they are not too harsh), then place back into the aquarium in the same spot. If it wasn't in low flow then it should be put into a new spot of low flow the first week or so. Give it spot feedings of food soaked in something like Restore from Brightwell. Good luck!
