can i use stand pipe without overflow box?

hi there,,just got 300 g acylic tanks and i wonder if i can just drill the hole on the bottom and make stand pipe for drain water out instead overflow box and then stand pipe ,just try to save some money there,, will it work or not a good idea /. /?? thanks

if your gonna do that drill the drain in the side. better never ever clog on ya

by the way, no where enough skimming off the surface of the water so actually its a bad idea IMO.
