Can l keep sps using topwater?

A week is not enough time to judge from. The quality of your tap water is what will determine whether you can do so long term. If you have high quality low TDS water, it might be feasible.. but for the cost of RO/DI compared to the long term risk, its usually better not to try to find out... especially since the quality of most tap water varies over time.

i just bought the brs rodi system with built in tds meter. it was on sale for $130. probably cheaper than some peoples corals. its a good piece of mind imo.

Its definitely possible and has been done. But i personally wouldnt recommend it. Ive tested my tap (city water) and do not like the levels. I was able to score a cheap RO/DI unit early on and never looked back.

think of it this way, gfo and carbon are meant to take out what your animals add to the water... they aren't strong enough generally to take out what was there before the addition. but again, still depends on your initial water quality.

If you can't afford the $130 for a BRS RO\Di system, you're in the wrong hobby seriously.. You're going to run into problems at some point, especially keeping SPS.
