*edit- i did copy his ^^ answer because it was just too perfect for the question

Perhaps someone should mention that the tank needs to have some other live rock in it in order to revive the old live rock.

It's my understanding that you don't need live rock to seed it, all you need is an ammonia source, like fish pee.

What is the current condition of the rock? If all you want is bacteria for a nitrogen cycle then put it in and add a fish. But if you want all the critters that go along with "live rock" you will need to reseed it with a new piece. My self, I would go with a chunk or two of uncured but well rinsed rock. I am of course assuming your rock is or has been dry for some time.

I just received the tank. It was a full setup and got it for rather cheap.

I want to get into the hobby but it's not very easy! I'm trying though.

When I bought the tank, I took the fish to the pet store and had them hold it until I get the tank clean and situated.

By the I finished moving the tank inside of my home it was late, so I took the live rock from the trashcan that I had it in and put it back in the tank as well as re-added the water.

I came back home from work the next day and my place smells horrible. I look at the live rock and there are worms hanging outside of it and they're not moving. I picked up one of the rocks and it was no longer slimey like it was yesterday when I moved it. It was hard. I knew they were dead.

I put the rock back in the trashcan, siphoned the water back in there.

I want to clean my tank. The sand is horrible. There is a ton of bubble algae blended in with the sand. Is there an easy way to clean this up?

Can any of you guys give me recommendations? I want to try to get it done this week if it's possible. I'm told that I cannot put the fish into the tank with the live rock inside of the tank at this current position because it's curing.

This is good, because I have live rock that's under good condition being stored in another aquarium right now. Hopefully this rock will help the rest of them when I finally get situated.
