can mushrooms grow on the sand?

So I got a really nice mushroom from a fellow reefer and I have it located on the lowest part of a peice of live rock, and it has already started growing a little baby mushroom as well right next to it...My question is since the peice of rubble rock it is attached too is very small and can not fit anymore mushrooms on it, will the mushrooms grow onto the live sand? that just seems to be the direction it is going.. This is my first mushroom in my tank so I was just curious thanks.

The mushroom needs to be on a rock to way it down or it could get blown away by the current just place some rubble or a small rock where you think they are headed they will attach to it and you can sell them or put them in another part of the tank.

Thank you, From the one that I was given I now have 3, and they are all on the rocks, they were just running out of room where they were so I was wondering if they would grow onto the sand, but I like your suggestion of just putting rubble rock there and let them grow onto them. I will try that, thank you for your help.

they dont need to be on a rock.. i have several on the sand, however they are attached to crushed coral to keep then in place..

They WILL live in Sand, but do yoU remember the story of the Three Little Piggies??

Don't build a House on Sinking Sand. Build it on Rock.

A 'shroom WILL Live in Sand, right up until something bumps it over (Gobies, crabs, currents, snails) and eventually it'll have to "foot" on something more substantial.

I prefer Rock, mate.

I have mushrooms growing all over my tank. some of the one's on sand get blown around a little, but they away's end up fliping themselves over and do fine.

Thanks for all the help..it really was not my intention to have them grow on the sand, but it just seems the direction in which they were growing. I put a few peices of rubble near them so hopefully they use that...itll make fragging much simpler...
