I'm new to saltwater tanks and decided to create a reef tank, I have posted these pictures on other sites and still wanting to know what exactly it is. Sorry for the bad pictures.

Where is the live rock from? I'm guessing bivalve mollusc of some sort.

it's Marshall Island rock

It's an Ark Clam (Arcidae). Can't tell which one, but that's all you normally see, the rest is embedded in the rock. It's pretty common to find the back sections of the clam (the part you can see in the pic) lying on the sand or washed up on the beach. Either fish or some other animals apparently bite off the exposed end with some frequency. They will usually withdraw until they are almost flush with the rock, if touched.

Cheers,

Don

thanks, i looked up arcidae and it seems to be a Arca ventricosa aka Ventricose ark

Most likely A. ventricosa. There are a couple other species that look just like that when they are in the rock, but you'd have to extract the clam to check the shell shape and the length-to-width ratio to ID it to the species level.

Cheers,

Don
