can white spot come & go???

Hiya,

Random question as i didn't think it did but can white spot come & go?? I got a powder blue tang last month now & he is just fab and my favourite fish in the tank he is about 4/5 inches, he didn't appear to have any spots at the shop & they said he didn't... Anyway after carefully dripping him in the dark for 40/45 mins we popped him in the tank & he never seemed stressed by any of it, swimming round and eating etc straight away but under my light I noticed a few very tiny white spots & since then I started him on plenty garlic soaked brine wich he lurves BUT this is were it gets odd, you can look at him one day & he doesn't appear to have any spots, other days he only has a couple & some days he looks completely covered in them!! Is that normal with white spot?? Not sure if it could of been something else, he is so happy in hiself, eats everything doesn't scratch on rocks or anything either & none of my other fish have it, I also have in there a coral beauty, 3 yellow tail damsil, emerald crab, cleaner shrimp & blue leg hermits, he is in a 5ft x3ftx2ft tank & iv took my water for testing as currently waiting for my ordered test strips to arrive but was told everything in my tank water wise was completely spot on.
What treatment would you suggest best please?

Yes, due to the life cycle of cryptocaryon, white spots can come and go. Recommend that you familiarize yourself with the disease life cycle and treatment options in the sticky post at the top of this forum:

BTW, garlic does nothing in treating crypto.

The spots can come and go, but the parasite is still there. The white spots are signs of the parasite, not the actual bug. You need a QT set up and then treat all of the fish.

I don't have QT though so im going to have to get something that is safe for the crabs etc, I don't have any corals in the tank though. QT is something im definitely going to look into!

I don't know of anything that will kill ich, but not your crabs and other inverts. Without leaving a tank fishless, with the fish in a qty/ht, there is no way to rid your tank of the parasite. I'd read the ich/parasites sticky by snorvich and these statements will make more sense.
