Can you identify acro type?

I received this piece as a tiny little "bonus" frag with an order I had placed in May of this year. It has really taken off and is doing well, more than quadrupled in size. I'm just curious to know if it can be identified with any accuracy or it's just forever my "bonus acro"?

I think it is an Acropora nana, possibly A. valida. To be sure you'll have to send me a nice frag for me to examine closer. :lolspin:

Thanks for the input .... looks I get at least two in agreement so thats what I'm going to go with! By looking up your suggestions I'm thinking the A. Nana looks closer ..... under actinics it is really green and blue.

Now if you were closer I'd give you a frag as the ID prize!!!

Is there anything I can look for specifically to determine which of the two it really is, or do I just flip a coin? I know it's not of any great importance, its doing great and I'm happy with it, just like to know these things....:hmm4:

I know what you mean about wanting to know.

The best you can do is compare pictures of A. nana and A valida by doing google searches. You can also frag a piece and bleach it to examine the coralite structure under a microscope. You really can't go by the colors because there are different color morphs of the same coral.

I still think it is A. nana.

rather than A valida

but there is no real way to know for sure.

Nana and Valida are so similar, it really doesn't matter though either. I think its Valida though given the form and the fact that Validas are very common. That however does not at all diminish the cool factor, awesome piece!

Thanks for the input ... still don't know and voting is even for the nana and valida .... with an extra point for nana if it's not a secale!! So .... think I'm gonna go with nana .... or just stick with my 'cool bonus coral'!
