Can you put Turbinara w/seahorses?

sugartooth

Reef bully
I would like to move a large 8" diameter Turbinara from my reef tank into my seahorse tank to make some room.
Would it be okay?
Also, I would like to move a Kenyan Tree in with the seahorses as well.

I would like to know if they would harm the seahorses at all?
The horses I have currently are Reidi and planning on obtaining Barbourri.
Thanks.

Turbinara is a species class and does not refer to one particular coral. IMO the SPS ones would be fine, I am not sure if the LPS turbinara's have sweepers or not, but if they do I say no.

Good Luck.

Ah! Thanks. That link is exactly what I needed.
Here is the pic of the Turbinaria I wanted to put with the seahorses:

There are 3 or 4 identified species in the Turbinaria family. Yours looks like T. peltata. I see it is not on the list of corals in the list (thanks for the link cmsargent).

I checked in Bornemans coral book, but do not see any reference to how strong a sting it packs. There was nothing mentioned.

You could try asking over at Eric Bornemans forum at the marine depot site to see if it is an aggresive, normal or weak stinger.

Thanks Fredfish. I am very poor when it comes to ID of coral, so your assessment helps.
I haven't seen sweepers from this particular one, but I think I'm too nervous to put it in unless someone says for certain it's okay.
I will move the Kenya Tree and star polyps to their tank though.

IMO that is O for opinion, I think that coral is fine. If there are no stingers then I see no worries. It is not capable f damage without a stinger and will not consume the horse so no worries. I have the same coral and have never observed a sweeper. JME

Agreed. The corals will be fine with the seahorse as long as the tank is set up properly for both. What is the difference in flow and lighting from the reef to the seahorse tank?

I'm planning on having high flow, but diffused so nothing gets blasted. I was going to use multiple spray bars, however my LFS has a better idea. That particular piece is currently in a lower flow area, so I am not too worried about that. My main concern was the safety and health of the seahorses. I wanted to get that piece out because it's so large and taking up space that I am currently short on, that's all.

I don't know yet, he hasn't come to set up my new tank yet.
I'm expecting a custom 130 gallon for the dedicated seahorse tank in a few weeks.
