About 2 months ago I was having a huge ich outbreak. It was consuming my entire tank. Out of the 18 fish I had in my 200 gallon 4-5 died and more were about to kick. Ive read online that someone was experimenting with 3% store bought hydrogen peroxide (1 tsbs per 50g) and had success. My powder blue and Blue tang were the problem and other fish Succumbed to the parasite quickly. Once I've finished gathering information I shot over to pick up a couple bottles and stored them in the fridge.
From the scientific study I've read that was conducted in a controlled environment, I've learned that the crypto was only effected in its freeswimming stage. I then decided that to be able to be sure I'm reaching it at that stage (with the seriousness of the amount of spelread on ALL fish) I would need to dose in the morning and evening for several weeks.
In the beginning I was feeding the fish soaked in Selcon and Focus And Metro. When I decided to test the possibility of the peroxide, I decided to stop the focus and Selcon and just feed mysis. When I made this decision the tank was still heavily infested (at its highest point).
I had just lost 2 large tomato clowns who were covered in spots. I'm sure the powder and Blue were next. Their breathing had become more rapid and have recently stopped eating.
I started the dosing and stayed true to the times of day and night (7am - 11pm). Within 2 days I have noticed visibly less spots on all fish. I figured that wasn't anything to really be able to judge the 6S but by the end of the second day both the powder blue and blue tang we're starting to except food again. I figured that wasn't anything to really be able to judge the success but by the end of the second day both the powder blue and blue thing we're starting to except food again
It's been about 1 month since I've seen a single spot. All fish are eating and healthy as can be. I haven't had a loss since the tomato's.
Anyone else have any possible insight?
