Canabal Urchin

I have several short spine urchins in my tank. a month ago I found one with a hole on the side of him still moving but with another one munching on him. I figured it was a meal of opportunity and the injured guy was only recently dead and it was some kind of freaky nerve thing, but I was wrong. Yesterday I found the same purple spine urchin on top of one of my other guys. I separated them and found a large bald spot on the bottom guy. Today I found him on the same injured urchin 2X and had to separate them. Why has he become a murderer?? I have plenty of food in the tank.

Cannibalism among urchins is due to a lack of available food - do you have much in the way of algae growth on your rocks? If not then dried seeweed is a good alternative
