cancun has a few artificial reefs. more like diver playgrounds.
but if you want nice coral diving you will need to hit up cozumel or tulum for some cave diving

Cozumel is alright, but I'd go for scuba and not snorkeling if you are going out. When we took a snorkeling tour, there were various drop sights that they took all the tourists to and they were all very crowded. It was in about 30' of water and I did alright because I spend most of my time near the bottom, but my wife doesn't have the snorkeling experience to go down for very long and spent most of her time getting pushed and kicked by people who had absolutely no idea what they were doing. The divers did even better because they could stay down a lot longer than I could!

do not go snorkling when the cruse ships are in port...you will be with 100 people all whom are chasing one scared sea turtle

Iv snorkled off the hotel beaches iv stayed at and enjoyed it alot.

Cozumel for sure.I was just there in december, snorkeled playa corona. Its a public beach just south of the main town, about $10 taxi ride.Decent reefs right off the beach, free, however, you should buy a couple of beers or some cevice--awesome here.
When you enter the water,go right, more interesting stuff along the shoreline.

Alright everyone, I'm heading to Cancun in a few weeks and am looking for a recommendation for a dive shop to use.

I've already been diving in cenotes, cozumel, etc, so please don't tell me to go there. I won't have a car and am sticking to cancun.

I only plan on doing a 2-tank trip, and my girfriend may come along to. She's never been before and would need a brief instruction before joining. I know there's got to be some places where you can do an hour lesson then take a couple of dives...
