Candy Cane in Rough Shape

I know this coral is in rough shape... have been trying to bring it back but recently it has developed this weird brown bubble on the side.

Any idea what this is? :headwallblue:

Appears to be bubble algae.

also looks like you got a sand storm all over that rock might wanna clean it off with a baster a little. Duncan's and torch look great! Careful they aren't too close, though.

this tank is about 6 months old at this point, and all levels check out "perfectly"

is this something i should be worried about? should i remove this coral, etc?

It is a nuisance algae, if you can take the plug out and remove the piece of algae go ahead. Then just ro/di dip it, and put it back in. If you can't remove it just carefully manually remove it in the tank.

You have nitrates even if it is a low amount, that's why it grew, but it isn't a outbreak to freak out about. Keep your nitrates low and it won't have a chance to grow.

There looks like some green algae on the rock, you may have some elevated nitrates. How are you keeping up with exporting nitrates? Water changes? Skimming?

makes sense. i had let the nitrates get a bit high and recently fixed it, algae must have grown in the mean time.

thanks for the quick response, off to dip now. that one is just sitting in the rocks thankfully :)

For future reference, if (or when) you get another bubble algae, try not to break it inside the tank. They release spores into the water and attach elsewhere. They can be hard to get rid of.

I removed it and took the algae off outside of the tank, and was able to remove the coral without breaking the bubble.

Then I took it for a coral dip for a few minutes and put it back in the tank.

Those look like mojanos in your last pic. Alot worse than bubble algae. I'd try to take of those.

Thanks for the reply and checking out the pic. I actually knew about the mojanos (only as of a few days ago, been learning) and picked up Aiptasia-X by RedSea. I hit my red aiptasia two days ago and am going to get the mojanos now. :strooper:
