bodianus opercularis

Are these guys OK in a reef?
Shrimp safe with them?

I found them online at a great price, but wanted to get some feedback first.

Bodianus Opercularis-Peppermint Hog - is a very expensive Wrasse that does very well but needs a tight lid as it will jump out. Can be aggressive against others wrasse. either chasing them and taking pieces out of their fins or causing them to jump out of the tank. So you need to be careful when mixing them together with other wrasse but most other fish should be fine. Some will attack smaller shrimp and other inverts but for the most part they're reef safe at least with regard to corals. Smaller ones have better colors, the red and white striping is clear and more defined. As they get large the colors get blended together and the fish doesn't look as nice.

candy strip and peppermint are two different fish, candy stripe aka two spot is a good reeffish in a non agressive tank, mine had jumped through an eggcrate top twice but i have managed to same him now the side he jumped form has plexi glass top as well. very active needs lots of rockwork and caves

Bodianus sepiacaudus is candy stripe whereas Bodianus Opercularis is a Peppermint Hog. Bodianus Opercularis what was asked for. I never use common names as they are often abused. Egg crate will not keep very many fish in the tank, especially wrasses.

Mine is aggressive towards other wrasses. It's taken off the fins of other wrasses. Eventually, things have settled down, but the other wrasses have missing spines in their dorsal fins. Mine also destroys any hermits.
