Canister filter into reactor

I was giving it some thought and wasn't sure if it would work in the same way, but would it be possible to turn a canister filter into a carbon or phosban reactor?

I have an extra Eheim sitting around, and it was my hope that it would be possible to just fill it with carbon or phosban, turn it on for a set amount of time, and allow it work the same way.

Let me know your thoughts, it would help a lot. TIA.

I'm going to run carbon though my canister but I would be more catious with phosphate media. I have a phosban reactor and have the water flow through the reactor very slowly to allow more contact time with the media. On a canister, you won't be able to regulate the flow.

Also, if you choose to use a canister with PO4 media, be sure to use a media bag since it's a biit more fine that carbon and you do not want the particles to get into your system and onto your corals. It can do some damage to your reef.

Thanks for the help. On the Eheim you have a regulator valve on each side, I wonder if this would work the same way as you were mentioning. Or maybe destroy the motor...
