i cannot seem to get good quality images with my rebel.. its 8.2 meg pix and i feel like I'm doing everything wrong.. I've red some of the threads here and still don't quite know what is wrong anyone have any setting tips, advice? I'm not the best at putting what i have read to good use I'm more of a hands on person that could be the issue lol but any and all advice is much appreciated!

thanks

Hi Shawn, can you post a pic for us to look at? let me know what settings your using as well.

I had a rebel for a long time. are you using the standard lens?

start with a pic of coral.

sure, i was playing around with it last night for quite a while, and from what i read improved the pics quite a bit but they still don't have the pop like some of the other pics i have seen. and MAN let me tell you its quite hard to get a good shot of a clown fish they don't sit still! haha but i have to say I'm having a lot of fun trying.

I have a rebel XT also ,The clown pic is pretty good for the kit lense. the lense I have is the canon 100mm f2.8 macro go to
www.fredmiranda.com for reviews fo lenses and photo tips,I love my macro lense the only one better is the 180mm macro but that is way out of my budget!.A few tips 1.turn off all pumps 2. always use a tripod3.set up the camera on one coral and take pics while changing the settings like f-stop or ISO, or exposure then look at the results. But most of all take lots of pics ,even the pros do this cause 1 out of 100 is bound to come out beautifully!

the photo of the clown came out really nice. nice crop. did you use a flash? Are the colours in the photo the same as they are in the tank?

I could swear you've taken the duncan photo with another camera or something. I assume the original lens is the 18-55mm? do as sassafrass states. use a tripod, pumps off, clean the glass. get the camera nice and close to the glass as well (or as close as the focus wil allow), use a low ISO (100 or 200) and f3.5. I

take lots of pics too of the same thing. this is the great thing about digital. use as many settings as possible too until you find what works for you. try and get one thing right at a time too. focus, then DOF, lastly work on white balance.

Thank you for the info sassafrass. the pic of the clown was with the flash the Duncan was not. i was playing around with the camera and was trying to see what came out the best, and i have to say that it worked a lot better with the flash!

the colors of the clown fish and the anemone are exactly how they are in the tank, i did photo shop the pic a lil but nothing really with the colors. i just cropped it and added the black border..

thank you for the input I'm going to play around with the camera some more tonight and see what i can get.

thanks again

Shawn
