I shoot with a G12. shoot the lowest ISO you can get away with. Higher ISO will result in more "noise" or grainy looking pics. There is a macro setting that is not available when you shoot auto. Push the little button on the 4-way, I believe its the left hand arrow, you will see a little flower icon in the display, push ok, the center button and you're good to go. I almost always shoot aperture priority. a low number is a wide opening and gives you a shallower depth of field.
