Canon Macro

Anybody use the MP-E 65???? Tell me your thoughts please.

How steady is your hand? Let me say, it's probably one of the most difficult macro lens to use. Add a few extension tubes and that thing turns into a microscope. :D

Here's an example I shot about 2yrs ago.

MP-E at about 2x, subject was about 3-4mm.

I shoot with Nikon, but there's nothing like that lens that I've been able to find. My hands are fine, I just have trouble seeing sometimes, (that old age thing). I do use tubes quite a bit and don't have problems with them. I also use the full manual ones, and have gotten fairly use to using them. I've been reading up on the lens and think I may get a used body and that lens.

What a conundrum.

I don't own one but after getting the Canon 100 macro last year then adding some extension tubes to it a little later I have a feeling that the MP-E 65 will be in my future at some point down the road. I can't justify it now but it's way too cool to do without forever. :)

Jump Jesse, Jump! Do it, just do it :). That lens would be sick. For static subjects you could use rails and the Live View to focus. Think you will need the flashes too though so consider that into the cost. Might want to read up about in the photo on the net Canon forums. There is a wicked Macro section there.

I have been talkin to Brian, (LordV), on POTN a bit. The lens is pretty incredible.

LordV has some unreal images. Lots of those guys do. This is not a need item for Macro like the basic 100mm, but if you want to get further and deeper into the Macro world it sure would be an awesome tool to have in the bag. I'm sure it has a steep learning curve though.
