Can't grow GSP and Xenia in display

Recently a fellow reefer gifted me several corals after finally winning my nitrate battle. He gave me a variety of plating montipora which are all growing well in both the display and frag tank.

He also brought me two varieties of Xenia and some GSP. The larger pulsing Xenia and gsp went into the frag tank since they were unmounted and were doing well. After about 3 weeks, I've moved them to the display tank and all polyps retracted (as expected). The next morning, the GSP was still retracted and the Xenia polyps were out, but not "reaching" very far. I noticed my jeweled damsel nip it a few times. When I got home from work, the GSP were still closed and the Xenia was starting to melt as was the other variety of xenia. I moved all back to the frag tank last night, and the one variety looks better, but still no GSP extension.

Here's a little bit about my system:

10 year old reef, was moved about 2.5 years ago to its current location. 75G display, plumbed to 20L frag tank, 30G fuge, 20G sump. Display is 2x250W MH (on about 3 hours a day) and 4x54w T5; Vortechs Mp40w and K4 for movement. Frag tank is a 175W MH about 18" above water.

Parms: Alk 10.5, Ca 440, Mag 1350. PO4, NO3 are undetectable via Salifert kits.

Possibilities that I can think of:

1. Jeweled Damsel attack. Kind of unlikely and he's the only fish.
2. Chemical warfare from a large toadstool (one large 7", that had 3 babies)
3. Too much flow

Also noticed my torch randomly retracting for about an hour the last few days. I suppose its possible that the torch and toadstool were duking it out (they are relatively close) and the xenia/gsp are collateral damage.

Thoughts and/or questions would be great! Thanks

Hmm, moved them back to the frag tank and they are open. The xenia looks like it was beat up - missing the tips of the polyps. Think that confirms the damsel?
