I am wanting to purchase a new light to put over my reef tank 180 gallons. 72 x 24 x 24. I'm certainly going to buy new as not too many are available used. I do know I want to get this Hanging Arm Kit for Current-USA fixtures. I do not want to make any holes in the ceiling, but I do not want to place on the tank with riser mounts.
The lights I am considering- Constellation T-5's vs Nova Extreme Pro T5's vs Outer Orbit HQI/T5/LED lights. I have lps, sps and wish to have clams.

I need some input as what would be the light of choice outside the obvious descion of the total price. I want to have versatality incase I want to do something else down the road and not buy another light fixture.

I have that Outer Orbit fixture & it's pretty sweet. Only complaint would be that the fan is slightly loud. But they are only $5-$10 to replace so don't let that deter you. It comes with a hanging kit & I made the arms out of 3/4" electrical conduit. Only cost about $10.00 & a couple of hours.

My only problem with mine is it's 700watts & yours would near 1100 watts. The 24" depth it a factor. I'm not sure t-5's would cut it for clams & such. But we could use half the wattage by going with t-5's & bulbs are much less expensive. Thus allowing for fine tuning without "breaking the bank".

Interested in opinions on this choice as well.

I know this won't help you make up your mind, but you can also look into the new belize sun 72" HQI by hamilton technology has 3 HQI double ended bulbs in 150,250 and 400watts 2 T5HO 80 watt actinic 420nm and 4 blue moon lights with a price tag of $979.oo little more than the constellation but you get the best of both worlds. you can keep sps and clams.
