Does anybody have any suggestions about on? I have two great flame angels. The only problem is that they have decided to start munching on my corals. I have about one hundred fifty pounds of LR which I do not want to take apart. Any info. would do wonders.
Try an acrylic trap. If you only offer food to the tank in the trap, the fish will usually go into the trap eventually. I have one and it works on any fish that cannot survivie on the reef without food (like damsels or some wrasses).
On the flip side, they might eat more coral if you starve them.
You can always try to use a small, barbless fish hook. Many have had success with this, but I have no first hand experience.
Sounds very cruel but when I cant for the life of me catch a fish in my reefs Ill wait till the lights have been off for a few hours. Ill then figure out where the certain fish is sleeping and Turn the lights on. The fish will be so stunned it will swim blindly around and is then very very easy to catch. I then place him where I need him and turn the lights off. This will mostlikely make the other fish upset. Thats why You make sure you know where the fish your looking for is b4 you turn the lights on. So that you can do it as quickly as possible. I doubt most will recomend this technique but it has done wonders for me.
Oh I forgot to mention, If you use my method and If your fish has lodged itself in some rocks (as some do when theyre sleeping) DO NOT PRY IT OUT! You risk breaking fins and stuff. When this happens I will fan some water towrds it and since the lights are on as well they will dislodge themselves. Probably thinking its morning.
hmm large flower vase + food+ slightly starved fish + quick hand and net to block of the exit= caught a foxface, lamark, vlamingi, sailfin, cherub angel, green coris..... and algae blenny. has worked for me
Have a look at this. I know from experience that the Flame is a tough fish to catch. This solution seems extreme, but it's far preferable to taking out all your rock. Good luck.
