Carbon and GFO Reactor

I am getting back into the hobby and with my last tank I added a Carbon and GFO reactor after my tank was up and running for a bit. I am in the process of setting up my new tank. Do most people have these set up during the cycle or when are they added?

I did carbon in a mesh bag in a high flow area until I needed the GFO. Then I added carbon to the reactor along with GFO.

So like in sump where the water over flows?

I don't have a sump, but yes in a high flow area. Or even better in between one of your baffles.

I usually wait until the tank is established before running any extras such as GFO, carbon, protein skimmer etc. I like the tank to go through the normal "breaking in" process in due time, I like observing the process, to me it's not a race, it's a marathon.

I am a newbie, but have learned to let the tank tell me what it needs and not the other way around.

My protein skimmer went back in the box for six months before it went back in the fuge. My reactor is being used as a particle filter.
