Carbon Dosing / Lower pH

Hi All-

I have been using the Red Sea No:Po-X Nitrate removal product, which is based generally on carbon dosing. I've been ramping up slowly over the last couple weeks, and am at 2mL/100L out of a recommended 3mL/100L. I dose in the AM when pH is lowest, out of convenience only. I also dose the Alk part of Randy's 2-part at this time.

This AM I dosed the Alk, and the pH went from 8.00 to 8.1, which is as expected. However, today, for the first time, after dosing the NoPox, my Ph declined from 8.10 to 7.91 over the course of six or so hours. Is it possible that when the carbon source hits the water, the bacteria reproduce quickly, O2 is sucked out of the water, and a drop in Ph can occur?

My Alk is 8.5 dkH before dosing and peaks around 8.9-9.0 after dosing, varying slightly on how long after dosing I measure.

This weekends test results:

Tank 29g w/ 7g sump. 32g total
Ammonia: 0 - API test kit
Nitrite: 0 - API test kit
Nitrate: 25+ (tough to tell with salifert, why I started No:Po-X)
Phos: 0.25 - Hannah Checker
Alk: 8.5 - Hannah Checker
Ca: 465 - Salifert
Mg: 1470 - Nyos
Ph: 8.15 Day, 7.9 Night - Recently calibrated Apex

As always, thanks!

I guess I know it would probably be better, but would it make a difference if I dripped the NOPOX over some time?

Might carbon dosing have an affect on chaeto photosynthesis?
