Carbon Reactor

I was thinking about using a PhosBan Reactor in my new reef tank. Instead of having it filled with PhosBan, I plan on filling it with carbon in order to keep the water clear and remove impurities. I thought this would be a good idea, but would like to have some opinions on it. Do you think this would be worth the extra money, or just a waste?

Theres one by 2 little fishes for a pretty good price i have been thinking about doing the same with. You could always use one or the other in there
