From what I understand carbon can take out benificial things out of the water so I dont use. Dont really remember what it takes out. Chemipure is like carbon but doesnt remove the benificial things.
1/2 a cup run passively--ie, not through a canister filter, etc, but in a mesh bag thrown into the sump or behind your live rock. Replace once a month.

Technically, this is true, but it is also true of corals
The benefits highly outweigh this factor--carbon helps lower chemical warfare between competing species, removes many noxious substances, and most importantly removes yellowing compounds from your water so that your lighting can function at 100%.
