Cardinal Help

Bought 2 cardinals today from my LFS, they had a tank with about 6 or 7 in which I observed for quite a while before deciding on the two I wanted. I noticed at the time that one had a torn tail fin with a bit missing so obviously avoided that one. When I got home after id acclimatized the fish and put them in my aquarium to my annoyance I realised that in the confusion of the fish darting around when being caught id ended up with the one with the torn fin. After observing this fish I noticed that he also has some dorsal fin errosion and he has noticable increased gill movement compared to the other one. What can this be? I was thinking gill parasites but dont see how that fits with the fin errosion? or alternatly could it be bacterial? If so is there any chance I can trat topically with formalin bath etc?

Regards Fred

Im going to have a go at treating this fish later with some praziquantrel, I want to use the hi dose short time method any advice on how what concentration and for how long? Anyway I can be 100% sure its gill flukes? and would it halp to do fresh water bath before the treatment or waste of time?

Regards

I hope someone with experience answers. I would like to learn about this too. I have 1 lg PJ card in display, and just added 2 very young PJ's and 1 very young Bangaii from the LFS to my QT today. The bangaii has a bit of a "fray" at the top of it's top fin.

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack your thread. I am hoping you get some help.
