Care for Duncan

I just got a small colony of Duncan, It is not opening... It is under 8 tubes of T5 and i put it in the minimal flow area in my tank... Other corals are doing fine... Only this colony...

Or how long does it take to get used to my tank condition... It is 3 days old in my tank...

I'd put it in a shaded area and leave it alone. Let it open a few days, then move it out in to the light. Took almost 3 days for mine to fully open, but i had moved it around some. I think i kept agitating it :(

probably not in the long run, but maybe at the moment. From what i understand, they are highly adaptable and tough. Believe me, mine was not happy :) i had to reglue it to a frag, moved it several times because i added LR, then tried to feed it. Everything i did made it mad. so, i left it alone. 2 days later, it fully opened, 2 days after that i fed it. It's a pig. i'd move it in to the shade and give it another couple days before complaining to the LFS or wherever you got it.

Duncans are really pi ssy corals when you first get them in the tank. Just keep it low in the tank and partially shaded and in a couple days once it opens up you should be able to put it wherever you want in the tank.

My Aussies like a good amount of flow and they are pretty low in my 90 Gallon. I have a 6Bulb Tek Unit over the tank as well.i

I feed my coral a mixture of cyclops, mysis, brine, oyster eggs, flake, pellet, nori, and many different kinds of fresh sea food that I blend together.

My duncans won't go for small particle food. They will take mysis readily though. I'd stick with mysis and/or finely chopped clam/silverside/shrimp.

I target feed coral 2-3 times a week. The fish get fed every 2 days though so I'm sure they are pulling in some food then as well.

Thanks for advices... They are slowly opening up.. But not fully opened yet.. but 1-2 of the polyps are still not opening... Dont know whats the problem...

give it time, i run a 4 t5 over a 18" tank. both my duncans took a while to really open up, week or so. they have been sproting new heads it seems like once a week.

i feed mine mysis shrimp, brine, and the smaller silver sides that i cut into 1/4" pieces. not worth feeding those smaller silver sides to my rbta. but they are pigs though.

hope this helps.

totally sgree with above. duncans are notorious for taking a long time to fully open up. start in the shade feed the ones that are open and the rest will follow. and the do seem to grow pretty fast so get ready to frag

Ditto... :) I feed mine PE mysis... They grow like crazy... Its a good thing they're not too bad about stinging other corals...

So I have one pod duncan and it is doing great but want to know what to feed it and how often....Suggestions?
They'll feed on most meaty foods. With that said I feed all my LPS Rods food pretty much exclusively. Its easy, and contains everything they want!

Rods food? who makes it? i have never heard of it and would like to try it if it works well for you. i just got my first duncan about 2-3 days ago and they have opened up but have still not fully extended there arms yet.

i got alot of flow in my tank so i am kinda curious if this is affecting them....the LFS had theres moving pretty well and they seem to be doing great. they frag from there own colony wich is like 100+ heads after fragging.....although they are directly under my 70W MH too.....hmm might have to move them and see how they do.

My Duncan frag opened immediately when I put it in my tank. It's been a little over a month and with frequent feeding, it's grown from about 3/4" diameter to over 2".

But I recently moved it close to a Yuma and the side of the Duncan that was touching it had shriveled up!
