Caribsea Life Rock

Just wondering if anyone has had experience using Caribsea Life Rock. When I started this project I knew nothing and believed my LFS. They had told me that it's better than live rock because there are not any hitchhikers. So I am wondering if this will actually seed my dry rock with the proper bacteria to cycle my tank. Thanks

Yes dry rock will become live. The LFS was being honest: cheaper, easier to aquascape and no bad hitchhikers.

You have it backwards though, live rock will seed dry, not the other way around. But you dont need any live to start, just time.

And I'm using 120# of Caribsea SouthSeas base rock for my 90 gal.

I have the life rock and love it. I virtually had no cycle. Fish were in at around 3 weeks or so with no spikes. My LFS was baffled. A few months later everything is great!

how did u cycle it? just added salt water, heater and powerhead and there was no cycle and your fish are fine?

same thing here , added the rocks ,sand water ,etc and a bottle of frtiz zyme turbo start , I had two clown fish and a fire fish in the tank in less than 3 days. not a single problem.
I was taking down my nano tank in my office for remodeling so I couldn't wait for a traditional cycle.... anyways I have always started my tanks with turbo start and I am able to put a couple of fish in a matter of 2 days.... This was my first time using Caribsea Life rock but I am very please.

so you guys didn't experience a cycle right? just straight to nitrates?

I did not see a cycle but I still gave it a couple weeks. I have since gotten a bigger tank and bought real live rock. I like the live rock better in the sense that I have some nice big base pieces that I don't have with the life rock but I still have the life rock in my 40 and I'm happy with it. It's purple out of the box so I like the color. Just wish they had some bigger pieces. Maybe they have them in different sized boxes?
