I purchased 4 Carpenters Fairy Wrasses. One male and three females. Unfortunately, the male jumped and met his fate. Does anyone know if one of the other females will change sexes without a male present or will I have to purchase another male.

there are alot of environmental factors that play a role into how long it will take, some change fairly quickly others take a while.

Thank you for your help Julio. I was trying to find info about the Carpenters wrasse but all I could find was what they eat, parameters for living and that they like to jump! Thanks again.

It will happen, just be patient. It could take as much as a year, but I doubt that it will take that long. Don't give up on her... I mean him... I mean her.

Does the Carpenters Fairy Wrasse burrow in the sand?? I am looking for a wrasse that is cute, peacefully and a non-digger. I thought the Carpenters Fairy Wrasse or a McCosker's Flasher Wrasse might be the ticket. What do you think. R

The three Carpenters fairy wrasses in my tank swim all over. At nite, they hide in the live rock or in between the branches of a hammer to sleep. I have not seen them burrow in the aragonite substrate. They are very colorful and playful.

Fairy and Flasher wrasses don't bury themselvs. Instead they form a mucous cocoon, up in the rocks, to sleep in.

My LFS has the McCosker's Flasher Wrasse quite often--$60!! They never have the Carpenters, but when they do it's only $30. I have a hard time spending that much on a fish. Coral are more durable. R
