carpenter's (or wanna be carpenters :P) advice needed

Okay, basically, i got a new canopy through a trade (thanks Pmike :D) and i've decided to make the canopy taller. As of right now, i have everything figured out except the border/trim/routing. The canopy is a very nice style and hte wood is really nice too. The only thing is that Lowes doesn't carry this specific routed trim/border. Here's a picture. If anyone has any suggestions on what i could do, that would be great, i dont have a router and i definetly dont know how to use one (ive seen them done, but never done them myself). Another thing, i dont care if i have the borders or not, i was tempted to just pry them off but i didnt want to risk damaging the wood and it's definetly been liquid nailed on. i dont really care about the stain color or any color for that matter cause im going to be painting it black (not spray paint, i just cant bring myself to do it to this fine piece of wood) Here are the pics

And one last thing, i think the wood is some type of oak, i think its natural oak but if anyone can tell that would be helpful as well. sorry for the bad quality photo.

Another thing, if any one has any ideas on prying the boarders off, that would be fine as well...
 
If it is liquid nailed on i wouldnt attempt to try and pry it off. You would most likely damage the wood umderneath. As far as routering if i had a router i would more than gladly help you there but unfortunately i dont. Hopefully someone will chime in that has 1 and can help you with that.
 
well idont know if it actuallyh has be liquid glued on, but does it really matter? doesnt seem like its coming off without a crowbar and alot of patience.
 
Either way glued or not you would have to pry between the 2 and would most likely end up denting and scraping the wood. you could probably find a place to router the wood for you too. I know on this side of the bridge we have some places that sell nice woods and will plain and router them for you. The 1 im thinking of off the top of my head is called Weiss Hard Woods or something like that.
 
Okay, i mean one of my best friends dads does alot of wood working and has a router, but i dont want to rely and depend on their schedule (he's pretty busy). Now im originally from st pete and i know hte area pretty well, do you know what street/avenue its located on?
 
ok i called and they said they do but it takes about a week and also $25. They suggested craftmans supply...whatever that is, but supposivley its over by ybor and they do specifically that....now i just need to find them.

Yeah, I'd agree, definitely not oak. Maybe birch, poplar, maybe a maple.

The molding looks like a double round over. Maybe. Although one is lower than the other. I might suggest trying to get that old stuff off, and then putting some new on, rather than trying to match it. Might be easier. Just an idea......
 
hey buddy you got that from pmike right! he builds his own stands maybe he would be the best person tio ask. maybee he built that one too
