on so I have a pacific dwarf angelfish (BEAUTIFUL!) in my 20L with a watchman goby. It had a touch of the ich when I got him and he recieved a fresh water dip after an extensive acclimation procedure and treatment with formalin and machite green. while I know I did not "cure him" I definatly knocked the infestation down and increased his odds for survival. In the past I have always been able to treat ich effectivley with Garlic food, FW dips, and hyposalinity however after this fish showing no signs of ich for 5 days...... today he exploded with white spot, had some belabored breathing and barley pecked at his food. I rapidly set up a emergency hospital tank and began hypo and chemical treatment. Thanks to Hobbyfish (Adam) for lending me a spare HOB powerfilter!
Anyway, I have no effective biofilter in here now and the meds would likley kill it anyway. I want to keep him (pending his survival) in this hospital for several weeks untill his health improves drastically. How fast do you all suspect the ammonia would rise to lethal levels? I am prepared to do water changes to keep things under control and after chemical treatment is over I have some LR handy in my reef tank sump to add to the qt with bacteria but how often should I do a WC? I work 12-15hr days so I am concerned that things may rise before I can get home to do a WC. How much ammonia can a 1.5inch angel in a 10 gal tank make in 15 hrs? Any suggestions on keeping the ammonia under control?
