CC to Sand

Hey guys, i'm in the process of replacing my CC for sand. Over the last few weeks, I've vacumed out half of my CC and want to now get that half covered in sand, then let it populate for a bit then start on the other half. Anyway, whats the best way to...

1) clean the sand, I was thinking of putting it in a bucket of water and maybe recirculating the water from the top to the bottom via a hose. 2) getting the sand into the tank. I thought I would turn off all the flow, then using a tube and funnel, pour the already wet sand down into the tank via the tube. Well if anyone has any other ways they have done it, I would love to hear them. thanks

How thick is you CC (Crushed Corals) ? Are you using a real shell looking CC or is the one that is really crushed ? I personally don't like DSB anymore and all I need is a little sand to cover the bottom or use crushed corals (you see shell pieces ) that come in different sizes. It give worms, bugs a way to move around them withought being a meal. If you want to add Sand to the tank then you put it in a plastic bag. Lower is to the bottom and then pull the bag from one side (bottom) slowly and the sand should sit withought much mess. You can plan to do your water change after you do that too. I used to believe in fine sand that clouds the water (in DSB) but not anyore.

The CC bed is about 2" deep and has alot of shells and shell pieces in it (nooks and crannies). It has captured alot of detritus in those nooks and crannies. I'm planning on going with only a 1 to 2" sand bed. Thanks for the hint with the plastic bag.

Success... I got 1/2 of the tank in sand now and Mo, had to let you know the bag worked great. I filled a 1 gal zip loc with sand about half way. Lowered the bag in, burped the bag then turned it over zip side down, then slowly unziped it and out softly flowed the sand right where I wanted it. sweet.

I like how there is no algae in the tank and is that a frag mounted to the glass or is a snail with zo's on it :D

lol.. good one.. thats two of those mag-frags from aqua mags with my Zoanthids from the spring frag swap. They work pretty nice. I think I would do more frags that way when the time comes.

Finally done. Still a little cloudy from the sand etc.... Now to let it sit for a bit then to concentrate on corals :)
