CCLAXX's 17.4 Rimless Build

Hey, this is my first atttempt at a SW tank. My plan is to have the 17.4 gallon Mr.Aqua with at 40 gallon breeder as a sump/refugium.

What i have:
-40 breeder
(I know its not much but i thought i would get some insight before i bought much.)
What i Think i need:
-75 GPD RO/DI 4 Stage Economy System (BRS).
-BRS GFO and Carbon Reactor with a Maxi-Jet Powerhead 1200 (295GPH).
-(1) Hydor Koralia 1 12v Controllable (179-449 GPH)(not sure how many).
-Digi-Temp Digital Thermometer by JBJ.
-Mr. Aqua 17.4 Gallon Frameless Glass Aquarium Tank (24 x 12 x 14.4 inches).
-(2) Finnex 100W Submersible Digital Heater.
-Eheim 1000 Compact Pump.
-(1) RapidLed 7 LED PAR38 Bulb.

I do believe that is it. Once i get more comments and opinoins i will finialize what u get(and dont forget money :lolspin .

What i plan on doing is having a mixed reef. With the lighting i will do SPS (maybe) in the center, or where ever is appropriate. LPS,softies, etc.... will go in the other places. Once again this is a plan in the making so anything can change.(Oh i almost forgot i plan on having some clownfish).

hey, i'm building a mr.aqua 17.4 too, wish i had the space for a sump like you! lol. my only thought would be getting a protein skimmer over a carbon reactor first. i think a protein skimmer will do a lot more in the long run esp for mechanical filtration, not 100% sure though so i hope someone else can chime in. and i'm also curious, if you can fit a 40G sump, why not go for the 33.6G mr.aqua?

The price is the main reason for 33.6 . The tank itself is much more and most of the other equipment prices will go up. Thanks for the protien skimmer idea , im still deciding on which one to get. Again with the 40br i got at petco for $40 so im not complaning.Have you started a thread yet i will deffinatly follow.

Also with the Reactor its mainly for water claritey and such .

I agree on the skimmer, get a good one and worry about the non-neccesities after. If I may, a EcoTech Marine MP10 would be a great powerhead for the tank - it'll take up much less space than the Koralia and give you far more GPH. It might just be the best investment you could make for the tank.

To go along with the skimmer part i plan on either the tunze 9002 or the aqua c remors nano . Thoughts? Suggestions?

For the mp10 , i would live to get one but im a little (well maybe a bit more) short on money. Ps- i am a hs student so it will take a while for me to get some of the more expensive things.....

hey cclaxx, i finally received my 17G mr. aqua today and after a lot of debating, i've decided to ditch my eheim+hydor heater combo and go ahead with building a sump. i'm going to start a thread - its cool that we're both starting similar tanks size wise, hopefully we can bounce ideas back and forth.

btw, the remora skimmer is much larger than it seems, check the measurements. i assume you will be placing a skimmer in the first chamber of your sump?

Sounds like a plan . The ideas thing will be super helpful if we ever need some insight. I think im going to order my tank this weekend and maybe some other stuff. As for the sump im going to try my hand at diy . I plan on doing four cambers two on the left, a huge center fuge and a return area. The skimmer will be in the first chamber and then i will have a chamber for the gfo and carbon return and a place for tenp , ph and such probs.

Slight change of plans. I think im going to do a Rapidled plug and play dimmable kit. also the tank might be changed to a 20 gallon shallow . Tell me what you think!

i've had great results using rapid LED, the staff is great! i am very satisfied with my fixture. How many of each color are you using with your LEDs?

and the 20 is a better choice IMO because it is bigger, and bigger is always better! pics anytime soon?

Thanks! I believe im going to doing 12 leds. 6 white and 6 blue not sure if i can do more of one or not .

As for the Tank in not sure because im in the prosess of moving into a house . Also im working on the funds for my project. Anyone know of a place i can get a custom tank built for under a $100? maybe?

One of the drivers will support 14 so if you wanted more it would work
