How many braces do you all use in a 72in. stand? My tank is going to be a 150 gal. I was just wondering if I can get away with useing a single brace in the center of the stand? Or if I need to do moore breces then that. I just want plenty of room to get my sump in the stand.

I have a 150 gallon tank also with the same measurement. I have a metal frame with 4 legs and two center braces, front and rear. All legs and center braces form boxes. If I where to do this in wood I would do it the same way, but with 4x4's on the legs and 2x4's for the center brace.

dont use 4X4 that would be way over kill
go to your lfs and look at any of that stands way less then you would think
we have a 400 gallon tank with a custom built stand it has two sheets of 3/4" on the sides and 6 1X4 for vertical supporrt

I mentioned that 4x4's should be used because of the over kill. I have looked at the stands at the LFS and as a builder I would not want something that frail holding up 150 Gallons of water in my house. I know of friends that have these tanks and over time you can move the tank and the stand looks like it will come apart, they rack back and forth. Again a 4x4 leg may be overly stout but it is better safe than sorry. Your tank gets some of its support from the double 3/4" ply wood. Most builders will use 1 sheet and depend on the frame to support the weight. Plywood will keep the frame from racking, 1x4's supporting 3400 lbs would make me uneasy.
