Centropyge ferrugata?

Chibils

I've always liked the way they look (not THAT much, but they're neat), but my lfs got some in and they're gorgeous. Anything I need to know about them? How reef-safe are they from experience?

Pretty much all the angels in the centropyge genus are fine for reef tanks. I have no first hand experience with this species but have kept several similar ones with no problems whatsoever, in fact I think they're some of the best relatively small fish available.

The consensus lately seems to have shifted from "sometimes" to "most of the time."

I'm going to add an argi at the same time, which I know to be relatively safe, but I haven't heard of ferrugata being kept much.

I've never kept C. ferrugata, but it is my understanding that they are similar in behavior and temperament to C.bispinosus. I have kept several C. bispinosus over the years with corals long term (5+ years) and it seems to me that provided they are fed frequently and have adequate live rock to graze as well as some nori, they don't pick at corals. If you don't provide those, corals will likely become a menu item at some point.

General consensus is to go for it.

Anyone have anything else to say? Picking him up this weekend...

Anyone have anything else to say? Picking him up this weekend, along with an argi and loricula...
