cephalopod ID please

i catch these all the time when i got bait fishing i usually keep a few to feed to my eel and anemones. im wanting to ID them and make sure they are nothing protected and whatnot also just curious as to what they are. i have always called them baby squid but not 100%.

I never seem to catch them any bigger than these which is why im questioning whether they are actually baby squid or maybe a cuttlefish or something

Oh kool! I'm pretty sure these are Idiosepius sp. adults.

They are actually super easy to keep in an aquarium. We have about 50 of them now. We usually catch them in seagrass. What environment have you found them in?

If you want to keep them, they aren't protected. They eat glass shrimp and amphipods like champions. They can eat a ton though, so be prepared if you want to keep them. They like to rest on plastic broadleaf plants in our lab.

how big are they? 1inch?

they range from an inch to the biggest ive ever caught was roughly 8 inches. they come up to the edge of the shore at night not near any sea grass
