Chaeto bad and grows on rocks

i'll say it certainly doesn't look like chaeto, despite the fact that it's a very small image. you should try and take a better photo.

I posted on that forum. That person was very offensive and rude, hopefully I put some sense into him/her,

did you know ,,lol Logzor i think you need to know what the thred was about in the first place. can we put this to rest now. and i will get a better picture in the am ,,thank you

I've had cheato grow into rocks and sand a bit if you let small strands float around, but it is wayyyy too slow growing to become invasive.

sm fragmann sent me a few pics of what is in his tank, pics were still very small however it looks like it might be Cladophoropsis sp

he has some new images in his gallery, if anyone has any other ideas, would be great to help him out and figure out what it is in his tank, I still dont think its chaeto due to the shape and the fact that turbo snails ate it, along with it being benthic and not having a root system to grow out of his rock.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Well, look at that. I was wrong about Chaetomorpha not growing ON rocks. At least one species C. antennina does. But it looks very different from other Chaeto and is not available in the trade. This is not what you and I would refer to as Chaeto. It is from Hawaii and a few other places where rock is not harvested for our trade, as far as I know. It is not considered invasive by any stretch of the imagination.

I have chaeto free floating and growing in rock crevices but definitely not on the rock. Most of the algae I use that is in the hobby as nutrient exporters do not grow on rock/glass. Annoying root systems are different...

So, I suppose this C. antennina will never make it into the hobby :)
