Might be a silly question, but can you have too much Chaeto in your refugium?

Mmm, not that I know of. Unless it's growing out of the tank. lol! Just prune it back if you feel it necessary.

It need's room to grow, that is how it exports nutrients. If it cant grow anymore due to fuge size it's doing no good.

The idea behind the Cheato is to let it take in nutrients within the tank to grow and then prune it back so that your are actually "exporting" the nutrients.

I'm not worried about it growing back, I just hate to throw the excess away. I am going to work on that today.

If it gets too thick, the bottom sections won't get enough light, and it could start dying off, which wouldn't be good.

I know what you mean, I have to cut mine back about every 2 weeks, and it pains me to throw it away with all the pods and other life in it. But I am very limited up here as to who want's it and very far to ship.

You should be able to find someone in your local area to give it to. Is there a reef club in your area?

There is and actually I got it from someone in the club. I'm not sure anyone needs any though.
