Chaetomorpha help

I keep adding Chaetomorpha to my 'fuge, but it starts to"disintegrate" after about a week. My fuge also houses some snails and crabs, a fighting conch, 'pods, worms and Red Gracilaria. Is it possible that it's being eaten by the 'fuge inhabitants or that the Red Gracilaria is competing with it? Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated!!!

Chances are more likely that its lack of nutrients or inadequate lighting, can you post some tank specs and water parameters?

Chaetomorpha's version of 'going sexual' or sporulating, is to actually fragment itself.. or disintegrate into smaller segments and peices, which I think is what you're seeing. It will do this if there is insufficient light, or not enough nutrients.

However.. what kind of crabs are we talking here? I've some some hermits munch Chaetomorpha, its usually just a few tastes and not enough to do real damage, but I thought I would ask. :)
