I am think of getting 1 or 2 of them and want some first hand information on them.

I got three in my tank. Easy fish to keep. Will stay near the rocks most of the time but do come out if they think they are going to be fed. No problem with other fish or corals. Altogether a very nice fish.

I also had one and he was great. Got along with fine with all other fish, was out and about most of the time, and ate well. He was also very pretty. But he squeezed through a small opening at the back of my tank and went carpet surfing. I was sad.

i've heard that they're pretty cryptic unless bought in numbers more than 3. if they're big enough, they'll eat shrimp that can fit in their mouths.

I think they are fine in numbers less than 3. Actually, I heard that they can get aggressive when you buy more than 1 and your tank isn't big enough. Not sure was "big enough" is though, but maybe around 100g (?) There's been a few threads about this and there's definetly two camps out there. I would love to have had a small group, but haven't risked it. Maybe in the future.

I don't think you need to worry about them eating shrimp. I don't think there are many shrimp out there in the hobby that will fit in their mouths. They only get to be 3". Anyway, mine never touched my hermits, cleaners, or peppermint shrimp.

Cool

I want to order them soon, while the place has them. I'm still skeptical about them though, I have a pistol shrimp and I don't want them eating it. Though I think he, the shrimp would win, nothing else in my tank wants to deal with him. He's about 2" long, with a large claw.

I'll try and read up on it more before I get.

Thanks everyone, keep the post coming though

Ah no worries, it can't eat a pistol shrimp, even at full size... unless the pistol is a REALLY small baby.

I have 2 in 42 gallon tank (cube).they must have a cave each ,if there is only one cave the stronger will harass the weaker one until it jumps (I learn it the hard way ,I fix it by accident).
They donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t bother anything, they eat anything and they are always in front of the glass begging for food.
