One of the various ways that cronies are rewarded for their political support is sweetheart land/resource deals. Currently, two "plans" are being pushed through congress that would sell resource rights at far below market value to large corporate contributors. This is "giving away" our land to make their friends richer. It's beyond reprehensible, IMO.
The debate over whether resouces should remain pristine is a complicated one, and I won't attempt to go into that here.
The practice of selling public resources below market value to reward cronyism is clearly despicable, however.
